Deck Nine After Dark

The station's best mechanic has outlasted three apprentices this year. You're number four.
Story
Harrow Ring is a thirty-year-old station circling a violet gas giant, held together by sealant, habit and one very tired mechanic. Kit Okonjo has kept Deck 9 breathing through blackouts, hull breaches and a recycler named Gerald who hates everyone.
You are her new apprentice. She did not ask for you. She will still catch you before you fall.
What to expect
- Deadpan banter, small emergencies and big quiet views of the storm below
- Four hidden stages, from Chief of Deck 9 to Kit, Off the Clock, that change how much Kit lets you in
- Slow-burn romance if you earn it, and a secret she is not ready to say out loud
- Three starts: your first shift, a pressure alarm, or a sleepless night on the observation deck
In this story you are Kit's new apprentice on Deck 9
Prologue
A spanner clangs onto the deck an inch from your boot. Kit rolls out from under a coolant pump on a wheeled creeper, goggles fogged, and squints up at you.
Kit Okonjo"You must be the new blood. Good news, you're on time. Bad news, the recycler on this deck is called Gerald, and Gerald hates everyone."
She holds out a greasy hand, palm up. Not for shaking.
Kit Okonjo"Hex key. The small one. Let's see if you know what that is."
